Moving...

*(Written in June or July sometime)

We made the big move! We packed up our entire apartment, which included almost everything that the two of us own in the entire world, and moved it all to VA where Drew’s parents live. It was an interesting experience; we are used to moving, but we somehow had some extra sentiments attached to this place because it was our first place together! Thanks to our incredible family and friends, through wedding gifts, we had really been able to set up a cozy and functional abode. We have so many incredible memories there. Because of these lingering feelings, I particularly procrastinated in the packing process. Therefore, come Thursday, the day when we were supposed to be out, we had 80% of the packing we needed to do left, in addition to cleaning the place. Thankfully we make a great team (plus the help of our friend Stephen), so we got it completely finished and cleaned spotlessly by 8PM!

We have now also completed the unpacking and storing process here in VA. Drew’s parents were so generous and gracious to us to help us do this so that we don’t have to pay for a storage space. I would have to say that my favorite part of this process was emptying out Drew’s old room to have space to put some of our things we needed to store inside. It was immensely fun to help him sort through all of his old funky clothes, sketches, and woodwork. I was thankful to get to know him and his past just a little bit more.

For the next 5 ½ weeks we will be house-sitting for one of our professors in Columbia while Drew works. After which we will travel to see our immediate families, and then leave on August 24th.

As far as Rwanda is concerned, we now both have our passports updated and ready to go, and plans for the long string of immunizations are underway. We are hoping to schedule a Skype conversation with Bishop Alexis next week so that we can get some more answers to questions, such as what teaching supplies I will need, etc.

Drew and I have begin to compile a list of items that we will need while in Rwanda, and we thought that if any of you had some of these items that you were thinking of giving to Goodwill or have excess, you could help us out by either letting us borrow them, or giving them to us. That way it saves us money, and saves our society from becoming flooded with an excess of items because of consumer over-consumption! If not, we will hit up some Goodwills or something. Here is a list:

  • Bishop Alexis has asked us to bring English Bibles and songbooks. We are requesting NIV or ESV Bibles in good condition (no writing or highlighting).
  • Sturdy and functioning suitcases
  • An adaptor

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and we will update as progress is made.

Julianna
